I prefer g4u ( http://www.feyrer.de/g4u/) or SystemRescueCD ( http://www.sysresccd.org/).
I would only use SystemRescueCD, but since support for NTFS on the PC side is still experimental on it, I use g4u for NTFS partitions. (I tried SysRescueCD on NTFS...didn't work.)
Both are open source.
