i would say no. if you do need a new machine, go PowerPC. Although maya works beautifully, Studio MX will run slowly, and Motion will not run until you buy cross-grade disks when they come out in the coming weeks.

and Shake won't run at all. they're making Shake 5 universal but when that is scheduled for release, i don't know.

basically, if this is your livelyhood, an intel mac may not run properly for you for maybe a year at least. however, if you buy a new G5, it will still be fast in 3 years time, which will be around the upgrade cycle for your software as well.
