The OP's files are not in MPEG-2 format. The only fee-based MPEG Component from Apple is for MPEG-2 playback.
His files are identified as .mpg, but are likely to be some non-standard variant of MPEG-1. I suggest that he open these files in
VLC. It will likely play them. It will likely also identify the audio-video codec(s). He should also download and install the
Perian combined codec.
