| If you boot your computer into Mac OS 9, you should be able to install Illustrator 8. Then when you're finished, boot back into X and make sure the Classic is configured to run on your System (Apple Menu > System Preferences > Classic).
You should then be able to run AI 8 with classic.
If you're running an Intel-based Mac, you're SOL because you cannot boot into OS 9 on an Intel Mac.
