You can check in the Library folder within your home directory for the .plist file that is there for QuickTime. It should be in the Preferences folder inside the Library folder. You can also check under Application Support to see if there's a QuickTime folder in there and remove any preferences from there.
Incidentally, have you tried repairing permissions from within Disk Utility?
