I have an office in one of the bedrooms in my home where I keep a desktop computer that is connected to the internet. However, the airport base station and the wireless router are located in the kitchen where the phone jack is. As a result the signal strength is weak and inconsistent which makes upgrading software and other downloads problematic. Are they devices that will boost the signal strength. Thanks

Have you installed the Seagate Media App for iOS? http://www.seagate.com/services-software/apps/seagate-media-app/ Looks like it only works with a subset of content (music, photos, videos) and does not allow direct downloads of files from a web browser on the iPad to the hard drive. If the wireless external hard drive supports an FTP/sFTP connection, you might have some luck with the newly-released Transmit iOS app. It's an FTP/sFTP client for iOS, and might allow some type of workaround for what you're trying to do.

Handbrake does an incredible job (though it doesn't have presets for the new iPhones as of yet) and it's free. Since the iPhone 6 has true 1080p resolution, the "AppleTV 3" Handbrake preset should do the trick for 1080p content.

DeltaMac is exactly correct, but I wanted to expand on his comment and say that even though the original installer is deleted at the end of the installation, that doesn't mean it's gone forever -- you can re-download the installer an infinite number of times after-the-fact. ...though I do agree that for such a large installer (4+ GB), the recommended route would be to do exactly what DeltaMac said and simply make a copy of the installer before installing so that you're not stuck waiting for it to re-download when you need it.

Cheryl, Thanks for the response. I went to setting>safari but do not see a tab for specifying the download location. Am I missing something? I am new to the ipad and realize that it doesn't function exactly like a laptop or desktop. Thanks again.

You can choose the destination at the beginning of the install. Keep in mind that the downloaded installer app is deleted when the install is complete. If you anticipate needing to reinstall (and that might happen as you "feel your way" with a new Mac) then you may want to copy the installer to an external drive, if you like. Good plan is to download the installer, and create a bootable installer, using a flash drive. Use that to install (or reinstall) OS X.

I haven’t tried this since I don’t have the same set up as you, but give this a try: Go to Settings>Safari and set Safari’s download location to the Seagate. Now Open Safari and give it a try.

Thanks, That's what I wanted to know. I would change my OS on my external drive to match the Intel Mac mini be it Mountain Lion or Maverick. But now that there is no installer disc included. How does the downloading installer know which hard drive I want install it on???

Guess I'm not alone. :) Thanks! Will try the 'fix'. Edit: Fix worked like a champ! Downloaded iTunes from Apple, deleted bad kext, and reinstalled iTunes. All's well with the world!

It's some kind of bug in the iTunes updater, probably one that you can ignore, unless you are actively using tethering with an iPhone. If you just click "OK", you won't see that so-called warning anymore. Also - There's a variety of threads that have tackled that error: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6528247

Ever since I updated iTunes a week ago, I get this warning. I put it in the trash, hoping it would rebuild, but it didn't; had to put it back. Any idea how to fix without an OS reinstall?

I just set up an ipad with a seagate wireless external hard drive. I use the ipad to access the internet, emails, etc. I would like to download videos and video images via the ipad to the external hard drive. In other words, access the website with the ipad and direct the downloads to the external hard drive. Is this possible and if so how is it done? Thanks

To watch videos on iPhone 6, generally you need to convert video to iPhone 6 accepted video formats first. You can try Macx video converter pro. It can convert video to MP4, MOV formats so you can add them to iTunes and then sync to iPhone 6.

Why do you have to convert them? Why not use VLC instead?

Do you have these videos on your present phone? Or are they presently sitting on your computer? Shouldn’t be a problem as you can include them on your phone using iTunes when you transfer your information from the old to the new.

Wow finally I could upgrade my mobile phone to iPhone 6 Plus. Bigger screen, high resolution and long standby hours. It would be fabulous to watch videos on it. Only one question bothering me: how I could watch my video collections on iPhone 6 Plus. Do I have to use any video converter software? Which is the best iPhone 6 video converter then?

To answer your question, With the correct Operating System, Intel Macs will boot from an external firewire drive be it 400 or 800, they also will boot from USB externals.

External or not, no Mac will boot to an OS older than it is.

I was told that the new Intel Macs will not let you boot from an external hard drive with fire wire. Is this true??? I was thinking of getting a Mac mini, transferring the data on my G5, then cloning it so I would have a bootable backup. Just in case the internal drive started acting badly.
