RCDefaultApp

After Jaguar and into Panther, Apple took a terrible approach on interface development.

If you want to change the default mail app (mail.app) or the default browser (Safari.app) you need to make the changes inside mail.app preferences or Safari.app preferences.

Many people use different browsers as default and if they delete from their systems the two mentioned apps they cannot change settings anymore (at least changing them using a Mac friendly style).

RCDefaultApp is a free prefpane that solves that problem. It allows you to do any modification on the default behaviour of the system.

This prefpane should be included in any future OS X release.

MoreInternet also does the trick and it is useful. The only problem is the author seems not to be working on the app anymore.
