image viewing

How exactly does viewing images work in OS X? I have some that in a web browser, for example, come out the size that I expect, but in something like Preview, it is tiny, even when selecting Actual Size.

Thanks.

I noticed that too, it's weird. Maybe it's a bug in Preview.

Try Graphic Converter 4.2! It is the best image viewer for OS X or Classic!

http://www.graphicconverter.com/

The server is always busy though...

I had the same problem with Preview. When I select Actual size, some images looks small, and if I try to enlarge them, they look pixelated. If I open the image with another app, like iView or ACDSee, the image looks fine.
I couldn't solve this problem. It's very strange and it onluy happens with some images.

Thanks for the replies, but I am looking for a simple tool to have the folder listing on the left and show me the image on the right when I click on it in the left pane. I tried freeSee, which is exactly what I needed, but it suffered the same image size problem as Preview.

preview sucks

yeah I've had that problem a lot too with certain jpegs opening very small in preview. I'm sure it's just a bug, but I thought it would be fixed on 10.1.2 for sure. Maybe if all this talk about iphoto is true then that will be some better software that can just replace Preview. I'd be happy with just a quicktime picture viewer for osx though.

not sure i really understand what you want, but you might try ptah (i love it). archer is free and isn't bad. other than that how many of the other new image viewers have you tried? seems like there must be a dozen or more of them at www.macupdate.com. and new ones being released all the time. surely one of these is a response by some developer to suffering the same problem as you.
