More DP 1 Gig INfo

I couldn't find my original post (moved?), so I guess I'm starting a new one. This is a followup to my review of the new G4 DP1Gig.

Misc. Observations:

1. CInema Display now has 3 dead pixels (argh!) microscopic, hardly notice, but still...I know, has nothing to do with OS X or G4, but arggh!
2. First holy crap news, iTunes easily sustained over 20X rates for MP3 encoding! I'm used to 2-3X on my iMac or maybe pushing 5 on my 450, but 20X without a sweat. That's at best quality too. Entire CDs were encoding at under five minutes.
3. My little OS X-created RAID using two 25 gig ATA drives (not sure if 5400 or 7200) delivered the followin. SOmeone pointed out that RAID write speds actually suffer. I did not find this to be the case, though it wasn't as fast as I was hoping. All speeds are based on transferring the exact same 233 MB Photoshop file.
Open over Win2K network--46 secs
Open from stock 80 gig drive--26 secs
OPen from RAID--21 secs
Copy from network to stock 80--29 secs
Copy from network to RAID--29 secs
SaveAs to Network--170 secs
SaveAs to stock 80--59 secs
SaveAs to RAID--42 secs
4. SuperDrive able to convert to MP3 some old homemade CDs that were unreadable on my iMac and G4 450 DVD drive. It really is a Super drive!
5. For the first time ever for me, my Mac is able to easily handle any game I can throw at it. Games included Unreal Tournament, Giants, Myth 1/2, Quake Arena, Evo4x4. All games were glass smooth with all options turned on and at high resolutions. I didn't try every single combination, but everything I tried was perfectly good. A PC gaming Nazi might point out some slight hiccups here and there, but trust me, it's nice all around. A did put Diablo on and it ran just as crappy as it does on my iMac and 450. Man, that game code sucks. How can you screw up a freaking 21/2D scrolling game so bad? Cant wait for Neverwinter in OpenGL, it should smoke.

wow... 20x speed encoding... that is sweet!

i had a G4 500DP i used at my previous job.... i got 11-13x ecoding and that was fast!

i am particularly interesed in RAID performance.... i am thinking of picking up a pair of 40GB drives and using them as an internal RAID. yay OSX!
