Why do they call it iPod? I understand all the other titles like iTunes, iMovie, iPhoto and so on. But why do they call it iPod?

They are fucking cool. :-) Best mp3 player I've had the pleasure of using, very sexy, works well and sounds great... Absolutely love it, all my friends love it also. Now I'm just waiting on my cinema display and dual 1.0 to arrive next wednesday and I'll be "complete", well er almost.!

LOL, check out some of Dictionary.com's definitions for "Pod". Acronyms for "Prince of Darkness", "Piece of data"… maybe not. I thought it might mean: 3. A casing or housing forming part of a vehicle, as: a. A streamlined external housing that encloses engines, machine guns, or fuel. b. Aerospace. A detachable compartment on a spacecraft for carrying personnel or instrumentation. 4. Something resembling a pod, as in compactness. Cool, huh? |

Because it is (or can be) much more than an MP3 player. There is an utility to sync entourage, NOW contact and Outlook express contacts into the iPod. You can also transfor entourage tasks into the iPod. Info is stored as empty music files (with the info stored in the ID3 tags) so you can browse through them through the iPod's LCD. There is also a hidden game in the iPod (an arkanoid-type game). I'd hope that Apple publishes info so 3rd party developers can write games such as these. Also the iPod has 32MB or RAM which is much more than you'd think would be needed for an MP3 player. One more thing... as I understand it, you can also boot you Mac off the iPod if you have a valid OS in it. I think Apple has big plans for the iPod and they go well beyond an MP3 player. |
