| Not for a while -- that means at least for a few months. The MPEGLA seems to be sticking to its guns with the end-user fee (which REALLY SUCKS!!!), and Apple is sticking to its guns with the "Yes end-user fee? No QT 6!" attitude, which while sucks for end-users, I feel is a good position to take in relation to the MPEGLA. I hope Apple wins, though. End-users shouldn't have to pay for MPEG4 technology. It will just hamper it.

| I don't know why MPEG4 is not free. The previous versions MPEG-3 is free, right? But why is MPEG-4 is not free any more? Is there any big advancement in technology? ![]() |

| Why do people have to be so greedy? The hold up right now is that The mpeg4 licensing committee is proposing a 25 cent cost for the encoder and the same for the decoder plus an hourly fee. Apple is willing to pay the 25 million for the encoder and decoder but can't possibly cover the hourly fee to use. They are holding the release of QT 6 (which is done and ready to go) until MPEG4-LA is swayed and doesn't charge the hourly fee. This is never going to make it as a standard in video if this occurs. People aren't going pay for internet movies just because they are better quality. Everyone should email the committee because this needs to move forward. If they force the charge then the patent holders aren't going to get any money because nobody will use it. They should be happy with the 25 million and the fact that they improved the internet society.

| I'm sorry I don't have time to look at the quicktime live stream, nor do I know if it is still up but that is where Apple told us the email adress. The web site is at www.mpegla.com but I can't find a good email adress there to use. It was either mpegla@mpegla.com or licensing@mpegla.com Sorry can't get any more specific but I hope that helps.
