I've come across these before and thought about it...

but decided to learn myself.

After trying to learn by myself, I think I'll think about it some again!

They are pretty attractive packages.

I think it depends on what you want. Getting Gimp and AbiWord up and running is pretty easy (there are versions at VersionTracker.com). I would not get their CDs for those apps. I got Gnumeric working via fink. I think I could have gotten other apps from their office CD working, but I have not bothered as I do not use what I installed much.

I would definitely not bother for PHP/MySQL - this forum has an excellent HOWTO. I got Jakarta Tomcat and Cocoon running without much problem either. Actually, cocoon was incredibly easy.

mind you, I don't really know much about compiling unix software, but I can use fink.

what are you looking at?
