No one knows for sure...
but it's most certainly going to be a paid upgrade.

it'll be 1.5 years since apple last charged for a Mac OS X build (10.0, 4K78). i think everyone who says something like 'but 10.1 was free' should be condemned to use Windows 3.11 for a year exclusively.

Two disappointing things...

Been using Jaguar more and more. I actually attempted to get some work done in it yesterday, but GoLive suffered from some wierd behavior, and the Preview release of DW MX wouldn't load, so I had to go back to 10.1.4.

Anyway, my two biggest pet peeves about Jaguar are-
1) Why in the world has Apple switched all the Finder keyboard shortcuts for Home, Computer, Applications, etc from using the Command-Option keys to using the Command-Shift keys? Not only does this annoy users (like me) who have gotten used to these keyboard shortcuts, but it also annoys developers who have to retool their applications that will conflict with it. I would expect this of Microsoft, but not of Apple.

2) The Open/Save dialog boxes, probably the weakest part of OS X, still have not been updated/enhanced. They are just the same as they are in 10.1, which is lame. Looks like I'll be shelling out the $30 for Default Folder X...

I had enough niggles with 10.1.4 - so you reckon it's 10.1.3/4 for the next year before our major developers finish tearing their hair out (again) and we can do some work?

Bummer

Cheers, Lazzo

Don't misunderstand...

While a little bothersome, these are minor issues. Jaguar, on the whole, looks to be great. I already hate booting back in to 10.1.4, because Jaguar, even in this developer release, has speed, stability, and a lot of added usefullness. It's still not ready for primetime, as I said, DWMX Preview won't load, GoLive has some weird annomolies (several screens like the wizards and splash screen appear partyly offscreen in the upper right hand corner), but this it to be expected.

This is nothing to be shocked at, since as late as a month before 10.1 was released, several programs (like Lightwave) wouldn't run under the developer seeds. Apple usually gets things ironed out at the last minute.

But I doubt we will seeany major improvement to Open/Save dialog boxes. However, one minor fix has been applied to them - you can now use the keyboard to navigate. One small step for Mac users - one giant step for Mackind!

Really, Jaguar is going to rock. Can't wait...

keyboard shortcuts

i think command-shift is a lot easier on the hand than command-option is, anyway. it feels more natural hitting command with my left thumb and shift with my left pinky and the letter with my left index or middle, than trying to hit command and option both with my thumb, or even worse, dropping my index and middle to command and option, and having to use my right hand for the letter. i've always hated command-option shortcuts, and i for one will not miss them

Big thumb...

I guess I have a big thumb, because I have no problem hitting command and option with my thumb. I'd much rather use 2 digits than 3 if I can.
