MACrumors

A previously accurate tipster provides some minor tidbits about upcoming products.

The rumored PC iPod will not be available until later this year (Aug/Sept) rather than MacWorld NY... however may finally include a remote.

MacWorld New York should sport new PowerMac's with slightly redesigned enclosures due to motherboard redesigns. Details limited but the speaker is now white.

.
you see! the ipod will be different!

I think you were confused by the subject to that article. I was too.

The subjct was: "MWNY: New Enclosures, PC iPod"

The "New Enclosures" part of that subject refer to the G4 not the iPod.

When they say remote, they don't mean like a television remote, they mean a little bar on a wire that hook into your iPod then hook you head phones into the bar. The bar has basic funtion buttons so you don't have to take the iPod out of your pocket to pause, rewind, skip, ect. They have them on some CD players.

I know what a remote is, I wonder why I need it. Unless of course I get one of those bags that take 10 minutes to whip the pod out from...
Would they connect it to the earphones or to the FW-port?

If you have a look at an iPod's connection thingamy for the headphones you'll see it's a bit different when compared to normal 3.5 mm jacks. The extra pin/contact is for information, like FWD/RVS/PLY/STP etc.

And you need one becasue you don't have one now. The 'why do i want one' is a bit dismissive. I didn't need a CamCorder until i borrowed one. But then truthfully I only need food, water and shelter, rather than a career, house, G4. iPod
