Apple denying Press Pass to Rumour mongors...

ThinkSecret Article: http://www.thinksecret.com/news/edit...essaccess.html

Apple are basically stopping any press getting in that have even only simply mentioned another Rumour site, let alone a rumour, into MWNY!

... my question is, will there be any press there at all then!!!

Red face oh....

Well, imo , people have a right to run rumors. As long as they're false, it shouldn't really bother Apple but fact is they often get way too accurate (remember the new Imac?) and that's where it begins stealing the show from Job's hands.

But personnally, I enjoy reading a bunch of rumors site trying to guess what's up at the next Macworld Expo

/me wonders how many press will be denied credentials

EDIT: I agree with Think Secret, I think Apple will simply end up losing mac users in an already small community...

I believe Apple has the right to "authenticate" who gains Press access and who doesn't. A rumors site may not be considered an "authentic" press organization and thus could be denied access.

Although some motivation may be to target "rumor" sites, I think it has more to do with who is authentic and who isn't.

Ridiculous...

Apple has really handled this situation poorly. Read this coverage from the Register which outlines how Apple have shafted site Graphic Power . Graphic Power is not a rumors site, but has been labelled as such. If Apple thinks they can stop any of the press sites from "speculating" on what's coming at the Expos or what is in the works at Apple, they are living in a dreamland. There are legitimate rumors sites that go beyond speculation, with alleged reporting on new equipment. ThinkSecret, MacOSRumors, SpyMac (who is never right and is laughable in their track record) and the Naked Mole Report are really the last of the larger rumor sites. The other sites really just parrott what rumors are "reported" from the other sites, or just speculate.

I'd be interested to see what other sites are on Apple's "list". This is not going to reflect favorably on Apple by it's faithful, as evidenced by what happened to Graphic Power, who is most definitely not a rumor site.

Apple has no concept of public relations or a decent ad campaign.

Think different? Go f*ck yourself! Don't tell me how to think. Real Stories? Bullsh*t, the wax fruit in my kitchen is more real than those puppets on a string parading around nevously for 30 seconds on TV while Steve Jobs pulls their strings.

Good, I hope they cut their throat. They certainly deserve it. Do they not understand that it is these so called "rumor sites" are the ones that fuel our desire to follow Apple so closely and to see what the next "big thing" really is? It's certainly not TIME Magazine or the Wall Street Journal that gets me wet for Apple.

It's certainly no surprise that News & Rumors is the second biggest forum on this website.

Perhaps Steve Jobs and his ****** are ashamed they never deliver bigger than the "rumor sites" build up in us. I guess he sees this as stealing his thunder, when in fact, his thunder would fall upon deaf ears if it wasn't for the "rumor sites" that got us interested in the first place.

Apple is grassroots. Real people dedicated to the company, design websites and their own cost, much like this one, to support it no matter what. Apple has sh*t on these people yet they'll still "drink the Koolaid."

Others should follow suite with Graphic Power and discontinue support of Apple completely. They wont though because they are sheep being lead blindly by a ***** with "vision."

Apple's market share is 2.4% for obvious reasons. It treat it's friends like it's enemies and it's enemies like it's friends. Apple's not going anywhere until they can hire someone who knows how to communicate with the outside world, not just within their little clique.

Apple is a formidable company with a beautiful operating system and a loyal userbase but this quote is true. The way Apple includes Microsoft in its plans is really scary. Notice how much exposure Office gets on the Apple site? Notice how Office is included in many of Apple's ads (the icons anyway)?
