Will the 'Halo Effect' be dampened by the Intel switch?

    http://www.macworld.co.uk/news/index...e&NewsID=11913

Apple does not believe that its pre-announced switch to Intel chips will dampen the halo effect of the iPod.

There has been much talk of the halo effect over the last year, with some analysts claiming that Apple has witnessed an increase in Mac sales on the back of the iPod's popularity. However, concern is now spreading that the companies move to Intel chips, expected to take place next year, will stop potential customers making the switch.

Jacob Asset Management analyst Darren Chervitz said: "Without the transition, it seemed like all the signs were pointing toward market share growth. I wonder if this was the best time for Apple to move to Intel chips."

I'm thinking we'll have at least one Intel Mac (mini) released by January, Jobs said that by next year there will already be an Intel Mac on the market. They could get away with a 6 month delay for the new CPUs too filter through, a year is pushing it - I think.

agreed, a lot of people are probably waiting to get an Intel Mac, like me for one, waiting for a iMac x86 2Ghz. I was just gonna say G5 . But I think my pee-cee can hold out for another 2 to 3 years before i throw the tower away. Add a 15" monitor to my Powerbook, add the Harmon Kardon speakers to the iMac.
Its not the machine that makes you creative and get a better job, its what you can do with it.

Tera Capital portfolio manager Duncan Stewart said: "Anyone who is dumb enough to buy a computer because of the iPod is going to buy in the face of [a processor] upgrade."

I think thats a bit cruel though, I'm sure many people have been introduced to Apple Macs via the iPod and to label them as dumb is unwarranted. Actually it's a dumb comment.

June 2006 he said. June he said. He said: "In June 2006 we'll see the first intel Mac," or something like that he said.

    You're misunderstanding what I said.

He said "when we meet again this time next year, our plan is to be SHIPPING Macs with Intel processors by then"

He said SHIPPING, not introducing, they can be introduced any time between now and then, but shipping BY June 2006, they could be shipping in March for all we know.

So if an iPod is supposed to make you buy a Mac, an iRiver is supposed to make you.... sell your Mac? Buy a PC? Oh, the possiblities are horrid I jest

    What's the iRiver like?
