Vista release date

I know this is not strictly Apple news, but it potentially ties in with Apple's strategy, such as the release of Leopard.

According to the BBC:

Home users will have to wait until January 2007 to get hold of a copy of the Vista software.

Minimum specs: 800 MHz CPU, 512 MB RAM, DirectX 9 capable, 15 GB of free disk space

Recommended specs: 1 GHz CPU (32 or 64 bit), 1 GB RAM, Runs Windows Aero, 128 MB graphics card, 15 GB free disk space

The general feeling I'm getting is that Jobs is waiting for Vista to come out so Microsoft can't steal Leopard's new features.

Well, Vista's new features are of course known by now. RC2 has been released, RTM is about to happen. Even if Leopard would be released today, MS wouldn't have the time to add copied new features. Then again, MS can copy things later and release service packs. But I don't think Apple's _really_ afraid of Vista copying Leopard. When Steve said they wouldn't release more info about Leopard beforehand because of Vista, my guess was (and is) that there simply wasn't much that could be shown yet.

That's exactly what I think...
