I highly doubt this part. There was a reason Apple disabled transferring songs from the iPod to the Mac. The sticker on the front of the iPod when you first get it new says it all. People could easily take literally thousands of songs to their friend's house and copy them over. I suppose Apple doesn't want this.
Maybe if you could register your iPod with the computer you wish to use it with, it might remedy the problem a bit...
