Apple sanctions custom ringtones through GarageBand

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307108

I didn't see this coming -- with the new GarageBand update, you can now send songs to iPhone as a ringtone. It requires firmware version 1.1.2, so those using jailbroken 1.1.1 iPhones can't do this just yet, but great to see Apple doing what we all thought would be possible from day 1.

Interesting that you have to do it through GarageBand rather than iTunes though. I'm thinking this was the only way Apple could get the idea past the record companies. Making it in GarageBand implies that only a user's original compositions would be used.
