iMac Mail Keeps Shutting Down

For over a month now on my 6-month old iMac (Tiger 10.4.11) Mail has, for no apparent reason, begun shutting down. It can happen immediately after opening Mail, while reading an email, while clicking on an email to read -- you name it - there is no rhyme or reason to it. It doesn't happen all the time, but probably at least 2-3 times per week, and sometimes more than once in a day. I can't seem to find any answers on Apple's website. Anyone got any suggestions. Each time this happens I send a report to Apple. Thanks for your help.

We might be able to help. So follow these steps to see if one of them help:

1. Download Speed Mail and run it. It will take a couple of minutes on a large Mail box so be patient.

2. Download a maintenance program for Tiger like Yasu or Onyx and run their maintenance routines.

3. Maybe deleting Mail's preferences (YourHardDrive/Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist) might do the trick. After you do this you will have to set up your ISP email settings again.

We can get you through this if you are willing to listen. Good Luck.
