I thought a new Mac Mini with nVidia graphics to bring it up to par with the MacBook was a given, really. I'm surprised it's taken even this long. My current G4 Mac Mini is almost 4 years old now, which is the time when I no longer feel like a chump replacing a Mac. My next Mac will probably be a Mac Mini, since I don't need a laptop, don't need a pro tower, and I certainly don't want an iMac (I'm through with all-in-ones; they just don't offer any advantages to someone like me). So I'm very interested in where the Mini is going.Of course, I could always build my own PC and install OS X on it, EULA be damned (fair use!). I hear it's not very hard these days. It's something I'll consider, at least. But I wouldn't have bought a new Mini today anyway. I'll wait at least until we know more about Snow Leopard. I STILL expect a new Mac Mini sometime soon, and anytime before Snow Leopard will be soon enough for me. Apple made a lot of announcements after the expo last year, just on random Tuesdays. I remember because every little announcement got them another round of press coverage! It makes sense to spread out the announcements. |

One thing I've noticed is that the Mac Mini is by far the least popular Mac. Even when it was first released. And it's that reason that I believe Apple has no plans for an updated Mac Mini. In Fact, I believe it could slip away into the darkness, without warning, sometime this year. The Mac Mini was Apple's attempt at a "low-end Mac" and as it shows, people don't want a "low-end Mac" even if it does mean a small price-tag. People want Macs because they're powerful and can do so much. The Mac Mini was everything Apple isn't supposed to be. |

Well, the Mac mini was never "sexy", but it was and continues to be a fine business computer. We have several in our small business, and it allows me to justify purchasing Macs when compared to budget Dells and the like. I don't know what you're talking about when you say "nobody wants a low-end Mac", because historically, a large complaint people had with Apple was that they were too spendy. And Mac minis ARE powerful and can do so much… Here's the proof. |
