I'd like to know how they do it

I mean is it powder coating?, Spray enamel. Krylon?. No where on the site do they even mention how it is done.

I am considering powder coating my AlBook and my 1G iPod the same dull finish dark Green. Can't ell though what the finish will actually look like.

Annyone else have powder coating done and does it have to ahve a gloss or dull finish? Or is it a choice?

Mike

I remember IGN reviewing these guys some time ago. They mentioned they were very happy with the GameCube they recolored; they did a very professional job.

From what I saw, it's probably a lacqeur based paint or maybe it's urthane. Think auto paint. If you look they have an option for a high-gloss clear coat, so it's definitely paint. That and I don't think it's possible that plastic could be powder coated.

Powder coating is usually a satin or matte type of finish. The costs associated with it (to get it done right) are somewhat high, and I doubt your case would hold up to the 'torture' of it. It just seems to thin to handle the application and there's usually a substantial amount of heat involved. Aluminum also presents a special issue with it bonding correctly (paint or powder).

My experience with it has come off custom cars/trucks. We had some spindles powder coated, and they were worried about those not withstanding the process (1" thick aluminum). The finish is durable, probably more so than the usual paint, but it's much more costly too.
