Apple stopped taking in hardware for repairs?! (except AppleCare covered products)

I'm on the phone to an Apple Tech Support rep. Very friendly man, and perhaps the best Rep so far. He actually KNOWS his stuff.

But he told me he couldn't take my Powerbook in for repairs. Something over Apple losing too much hardware in shipping (that was his suggestion).

So, he suggested that I would have to go to the nearest authorised dealer with repair qualifications. After prompting for my post code he realised the nearest DEALER let alone repairer was 50 miles away at least.

This is scary. Will I ever be able to get it repaired? Lol.

One good thing: The man told me to call Customer Services on Monday, and tell them my problem. He said they'll most likely make an exception due to my location. I hope so.

I'm still on the phone...

Sounds like he doesn't know his stuff. I haven't heard anything about Apple not taking machines in for repair. Call back and get a supervisor. Keep going up the ladder. Don't let them put you off.

Both people said call Customer Relations on Monday. THAT is where I won't give up. there is NO WAY I am travelling 50 miles to a dealer (I don't even think it was a legit repair shop) and I don't want go 120 miles to London to get it repaired at the Apple Store.

I won't let them put me off.

You could, of course, send your PB to that authorized dealer, too, if Apple truly doesn't do repairs anymore (?!).

Yeah, I need to find it first.

I could call Apple on that I guess.

Anyhow, I am going to call them on Monday, and I won't give up.

I heard that they would still be doing repairs but that the AppleCare package prices would just be rising.

Bah, had to do some things after school=couldn't call them. Guess it means more time for them to think of a good answer to why I can't send my product in. Will it matter? NO. I will make sure they repair my Pbook.
