HD Content

Ok this may be a stupid question, but I was wondering if all of the content that I download on iTunes, i.e. TV Shows and Movies, would play in high definition format on my plasma TV via AppleTV? The reason I ask is because my iMac does not have an HD Display although all of the shows and such that I download play in widescreen mode within iTunes and on my video iPod. Does this mean they are all HD Shows and I am just uncapable of viewing them in HD unless I was watching them on an HD ready display such as my plasma? This would make a huge difference in whether I decide to purchase AppleTV or not.

The current iTMS material is mostly 640x480 as far as I know. It will play on your plasma TV, but the resolution will be slightly less than a DVD.
