In my quest to upgrade an old Biege G3 Tower....I have knocked down the RAM issue, the 19" monitor, the usb/firewire comptability, and the video card.
Now I have decided to go with an Apple Pro Keyboard off of ebay...but I think I could get a much better value on a non apple mouse.
What are some non trackball mouses that would be a good choice? I am looking for something fairly cheap but 2 buttons and a trackwheel would be a plus.

I highly recommend the Logitech optical mice. They have a little more weight and a little less bulk than the plastic-ish M$ ones, and feel really good in the hand. The scroll-wheel is easy to use, and they seem very tough with no bumps or gaps under buttons that might snag on something and break (I keep mine in the side pocket of my backpack, for on the run). It works well, even on my bedspread (for late night writing and coding) and shiny, bumpy or cluttered surfaces.
I think they have a dual-optical out now, too, though its hard to guess whether that would make much difference to performance.

I have Logitech and Microsoft optical mice and there's ups and downs with both. The MS mouse has a more comfortable shape if you are to sit for long and it has more keys. The Logitech mouse has a way better scroll wheel.
I'd go with MS Intellimouse

Logitech!
No, Microsoft!
No, Macally!
No, Kensington!
…
I have a Logitech Optical Wheel Mouse. I picked it up for $30 and I love it. (can we "love" USB computer peripherals?) I think basically you'll be happy with anything that doesn't have a ball to clean (optical).
