i need banner image help

i am working on my deals site, and needed a basic site image. I decided to start with my forums first and then go from there.

that is my basic board header. I am a programmer, so i have no artistic talent at all!! (ask my old graphic design prof!) Any feedback would help.

To me it's clean, simple, and effective. You don't really say what you're looking for with the banner in your post...stand out, blend in, etc.

If it was me, I'd try changing the color of the name to a contrasting color to see how it looks. Might also try recoding your header so the image is edge to edge with it, instead of having that space.
