Do you get an error message? Are you using Apple's Mail app? Are these large files?
If you are using Apple's Mail app, verify settings are as Verizon requires:

thanks eric-i am not using mac mail. the file is small. the verizon compose letter is different in that the browse and attach box dont work. verizon says"the file you are attaching is either empty or invalid.please verify the file path"mac support says its verizons problem. verizon says i will be unable to attach files using a mac puter.can i use another browser? is it difficult to set up. i bought the mac book"that should have been in the box" cause at 72 and a neophite i need to cookbook the directions, but nothing in that book that helps. thanks

If you haven't, try firefox (http://en.www.mozilla.com/en/firefox/). It has better compatibility than Safari. You may also want to try to configure a Mail client (such as Apple's Mail or Entourage), as they should work no matter the platform.

is your jpg in anything other than rgb color space?

For a self-proclaimed newbie, I highly doubt they'd know an RGB colorspace JPEG file from a non-RGB colorspace JPEG file. Hell, I'm a tad more experienced than a newbie, and that's not something that would occur to me straight off the bat as a problem.
I would second the recommendation of trying out the FireFox web browser. It is, indeed, more compatible with some sites that make use of forms than Safari is -- I occasionally run into websites that Safari doesn't like that FireFox works with flawlessly. I still use Safari for everything, but if and when I do encounter said sites, I'll temporarily launch FireFox to get the work done.

ignorance is no excuse. :)
If the file is in a strange format or corrupt your isp may not send it.
