My iPhone broke so my provider sent me a brand new one and wants me to send them the old one back. My question is how do I take my old one and back it up entirely with all the email settings, etc and put it on my new one?
I used the backup feature in iTunes and restored it to my new phone but it was unbelievably quick and I don't see how it did anything.

So... after using the backup feature of iTunes and restoring the data to your new iPhone, is everything on the new iPhone that's supposed to be there from the backup?

No, it took about 5 seconds to backup and then 5 seconds to restore but after I restored to my new phone I didn't even notice the difference

So the information (contacts, apps, etc.) are NOT on the new phone?
If so, I would recommend doing a backup procedure of the old iPhone again, making sure you follow Apple's procedure for doing so:

Here are some tutorials on how to migrate from an old iPhone to an iPhone 3G, but I would think migrating from old to old or 3G to 3G would be similar, if not the same:

Also, when you say your original phone "broke," what does that mean, exactly? Screen won't work? Cracked? Broken in half? No reception? What, specifically, is broken?
