Hi all,

I am trying to use my Ipod 30GB Video on my MiniMac using a Firewire cable, I have always previously used USB only with no problems. However, when I connect my Ipod to my MiniMac using Firewire I get this error message on the Ipod:

'FireWire connections are not supported. To transfer songs, connect the USB cable provided'

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I think the error message says it all.

iPods released after about the time the iPod photo was released only operate via USB connections, as said verbatim in the error message you received.

Wasn't there a while when ipods could charge via fw but only transfer via usb? Might be that.

The iPods sold for the last couple of years do not support syncing through FireWire, but can charge the battery through FireWire.
The newest iPods are not supported by FireWire in any way, including the iPod Nano 4G, the Touch 2G, and iPod Classic - even for charging the battery.
So, drbabbers, your 30GB iPod will charge the battery, but no other operations are supported through FireWire. Only USB for syncing.
