Sadly Apple has yet to produce the "CarPod", ie an Apple-branded car audio "head unit". So, I would like to buy a car audio "head unit" that integrates with the iPhone 3G so I can listen to the music on it as well as make phone calls through the car audio system.

I was looking at the Eclipse CD7200 mkII ( link below ), however it requires an external box called the Eclipse IPC-106 in order to integrate with the iPhone.

Are there any new aftermarket head units that have built-in iPhone 3G integration?
Or any announced that will be released this year?

The only one I've seen that may do what you want is the Fusion - IP500.

That's a link to the UK site, but the same details are available elsewhere.

I think they do two models of head unit. One is a radio only and the other is a radio/CD. But both take the iPod as a plug-in.

And a direct link to the YouTube video here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPuCpyo_Vm8&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Ffusioncaraudio%2Ecom%2Funited%2Dkingdom%2Fcar%2Daudio%2D1%2Fhead%2Dunits %2D6%2Fcaip500%2D68%2Dproduct%2Easpx&feature=player_embedded)

Thank you for the information, that is a fairly good design but the head unit does not allow for making calls with the iPhone, so I suppose I will wait until some bright manufacturer realizes the huge demand for a product like this.

This is one of those things that falls into the category of, "I can't believe no one has made this product yet." How many iPhones/iPods does Apple have to sell before head unit manufacturers popularly support them as well as, or better than, the Fusion CA-IP500? I would have thought that every major HU manufacturer would have at least one HU that is made for the iPhone/iPod by this time.
