I read that www was a default install occurring with OS X (in this case Leopard Server) install. www is not listed in Workgroup Manager either as a user or as a group (supposedly created at the same time). I've tried to add the user, but am rejected as a duplicate. I can't access my webpage from outside - error: Access Forbidden." The manual states that www must have read access to all files/folders in the web folder.

In Workgroup Manager be sure you are authenticated to the local directory: /Local/Default and select Show System Users and Groups on the View menu in order to see the www user. Also the long name of the www group is HTTP Users. The long name of the www user is World Wide Web Server.

That was it. I've never noticed Show System Users and Groups in View. Thank you!

With System Users showing I thought I was in, thinking that giving read rights in realms would do the job. It didn't. I tried to give read rights to the website to www through Get Info > Sharing and Permissions, but system users aren't listed there and I didn't see a way to work the recent magic that you showed me. I hate to feel so stupid, but how do I assign rights to the website so that everyone can see it?
