Hi,

I have a 2 Tb external drive with my old itunes folder on it.
I have a new macbook on the same network at the 2Tb drive.
I want to be able to play my itunes music without copying everything over to the macbook.

When I try to import things to the iTunes library without copying them, iTunes 8 still needs to move album artwork and organize files, which usually results in iTunes crashing.

Is there any way of having it just work? It takes far too long for itunes to process the volume of albums I have on the networked drive.

Thanks in advance.

Simply uncheck "Keep iTunes Music folder organized" (this will prevent iTunes from wanting to modify the folder structure of your library, putting songs in album and artist folders, etc.) and "Copy files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" (this will prevent it from trying to copy the tracks to you Music folder in your home folder on the internal hard drive).

You may also want to try dragging 1/4 of your library to iTunes first, then dragging the 2nd quarter, then the 3rd, etc. until you've gotten all of your music imported. If it's the sheer number of songs that's crashing iTunes, breaking it into chunks may help.
