Any way to turn the back-light off??

Your F5 and F6 keys control the backlight,, turn it all the way down and itl shut off...

System prefs under keyboard should be a checkbox for keyboard illumination if memory serves me correctly.

The problem seems to lie with the relocation of the ambient light sensor from under the speaker grills to the left side of the inbuilt camera. Perhaps its recessed too deeply or not sensitive enough. Unless there's a bright light pointing directly at the screen, the keyboard won't switch off.
