iPod Touch and texting

I'm thinking about buying a Touch device and I'm wondering if there is an app that will allow me to do texting. I'm hoping that I can do this texting without paying for a service or at least pay little for the service.

Any ideas appreciated!

FreeSMS is pretty good, just search for it in the iTunes Store. The app costs 99 cents.
