Hi,

I have set up a mac to be able to be accessed via SMB, on XP(or Win7) when I go to Run and type in \\computername it brings up the computer just fine, except it is logging in as guest, its not prompting me to enter a username and password which I was wanting it to do, so i could connect as a specific user,

I wanted to set up a mapped drive so it could be easily accessed, but without being able to get it to prompt for a username and password, its not working properly.

What do i need to do in order for it to ask for a username and password so i can access it as a logged in user.

Surely it must be something simple that i am missing.. i hope! :D

Try turning off "Guest" access for that share on the Mac.

Have you tried clicking the "Connect As..." button in the upper-right hand corner of the connection window?

At least for Windows 7 did you follow all the correct steps laid out in the blog post File Sharing With Snow Leopard: Sharing OS X 10.6 Files With Windows 7 (http://macs.about.com/od/filesharing/ss/file-sharing-with-snow-leopard-win7.htm)?
