Do you hear the hard drive spinning up? I ask because by your limited description it is hard to figure it out.

Did you get the Mac startup "bong" sound?

No there is nothing like spinning hard drive sound coming....

Try reseating your RAM memory sticks. Swap them between the two slots. You will need to push on each chip quite firmly for the RAM to be fully seated.

May also want to try a PRAM reset.

The MacBook was bought in London in december 2008.
