For some reason my external firewire drive no longer appears when I plug it into my G4 or G5. Is there a way to fix the external harddrive?

Cheers

Hmmm, what have you changed? New os? New disc-format?
If the same problem appears to two independent systems, it should lie on the external drive (probably). Can you see the drive at least in Disk Utility? Does the drive also have an usb 2.0 connection?
Does the drive start (indicated by noise)?
Also tell us what systems you got there.

New OS - panther.

I can see the disk in Disk Utility but verify and repair buttons are disabled with this disk selected.

Have you updated to 10.3.1 yet?

Have you verified and repaired permissions on your startup drive? It just may correct your problems.
