Joystick Question

I have a Logitech Wingman Extreme Digital 3D joystick and am having getting it to work with a few games. It works fine in Shaun Murray's WakeBoarding Unleased but it isn't working for Max Payne and 4x4 Evolution 2. I only see settings in Max Payne for a keyboard and 4x4 Evo.. has an option for a joystick which I selected, but it didn't help. I've tried installing GamePad Companion but I I couldn't get them to work with that either, althought I just installed it and saw it picked my type of joystick, but I didn't change any settings.

Does anyone know what I have to do to get it to work with the other two games?

Maybe you could use USB Overdrive...? That would be a possibility.
