I live in another city from my girlfriend and it'd be really nice if we could strike up some chess or draughts some time (or any other game you can think of, preferrably freeware).

Does anyone know of any networkable strategy games (not like StarCraft, board games) that are available for OS X and Windows ?

Try out Big Bang Chess: It's free, but only supports OSX 10.3 or higher. http://www.freeverse.com/bigbangchess/

If you play Go, there's a nice OS X Go game called goban http://www.sente.ch/software

The protocol it uses is a standard one, so on the Windows side you'd just need to find an Internet Go client with an interface you like. There's a list of clients here: http://www.britgo.org/gopcres/playz.html

heh. I am in the same boat. Mac guy, Windows girl, and we love board games. Yahoo! Games has been our standby for a long time, but for some reason, I can't play behind my school's firewall, lately. Grrr!

usually works fine. They're Java games.

Any other recommendations?
