Age of Empires II with PC and Mac

Has anyone managed to get Age of Empires II to run a multiplayer game with PCs and Macs? Last I heard the Gameranger software didn't support gaming on different platforms.

I tried to play it quiet a few times with my little brother. He's got a PC and it is not possible to connect. That's a real pity.
