Help with automating iTunes process

Hi there,

I have a query regarding my use of an external HDD and iTunes.
I am on OS X Lion with current iTunes 10.
I store my iTunes media on an external HDD which works fine with iTunes. The only problem is that I regularly forget to either turn on the drive before I launch iTunes or forget to eject it when I close Itunes.
So...

1) Is there a way to automate a reminder/prompt that launches when I try and run iTunes, reminding me to turn on the drive before iTunes starts?
2) Is there a way to automatically eject the HDD when iTunes is quit?

Many thanks in advance for any help.
