How does one perform a complete backup of a machine that contains 3 partitions1) MacOSx (2) MacOS9?

Ineed to reformat my laptop and reset it to a normal machine....but i dont want to lose all that ive done on these partitions

You might try the new Norton Systemworks for Mac. It has a backup utility and is X compatible.
