Also April 10: Day of Silence

April 10 is also the National Day of Silence, and I'm proud to say that I was able to shut my big mouth for a full seven hours in order to protest homophobia even though I had to go in and ask my Abstract Algebra professor about a proof.

I don't usually take part in protests, despite Macalester being a very protest-oriented school. This is one of the few issues I believe in strongly enough, however, to participate in a protest, and I think I was doing it for the right reasons (actually to protest, not just for admiration or something like that).

But being silent can only do so much, so I'd like to say to anyone who stops by this forum: Don't let homophobia spread. Whether or not you see alternative sexualities as acceptable ways of life, it can only be counter-productive to hate people for them.

i don't discriminate against anyone for any reason so I really could care less, but since we're sorta on the topic, do you mind filling me in?

From my trusty Webster's: Unreasoning fear or antipathy toward homosexuals and homosexuality.

I believe that this has been broadened recently to include bisexuals, transgendered people, etc.

The "-phobia" may be a little misleading. The protest was really about discrimination.
