(Btw, how on earth did a fast food joint get it's start launching an annoying clown and a bunch of imaginary creatures as it's mascots? Who came up with the clown thing anyway?)

Try reading "Fast Food Nation" for a well researched history of several fast food chains, at least in the earlier chapters. I don't know how detailed the coverage will be specifically for McD's in the supposedly upcoming movie, but seeing as how the book used the McD's details as a comparison to a wholly different chain, I doubt it will be as thourough
