Anyway, I've got one of the x86 machines we've all been debating (and here is my reason why apple shouldn't use one!!)...

Can anyone tell me what to do when a PC just plain refuses to work properly:

I have a PIII 866 with no system installed. I am trying to install Red Hat Linux or Debian Linux. But, it freezes at different points in the installation. It will not even let me into the CMOS setup before anything styarts up at the beginning (by pressing Delete at startup)...

Anyone? How do I get into the CMOS setup!!?

Try the DELETE key or one of the F1 - F12 keys and CMOS should begin...

Yep that was the usual root, but it wasn't liking it, I drained the battery which helped.

But still freezes on the damn Linux install!! Arrgghhh! Gotta love those x86 machines

yeah all x86 machines suck

and absolutely no macs have ever had hardware problems

seems the "trolling" goes both ways

onto the subject, ive seen both a pc and a mac get to the point where they would half assed try to start and not get anywhere beyond the bios or whatever, they were both bad power supplies, but i dont know if that is the solution to your problem or not ... good luck

How do you explain this G3 next to me that won't recognize any hard drive I attach to it?
I think that qualifies for a hardware problem.
