iPod Video... what colour?

Hey,

Basically, my iPod Photo broke again, it had a hard disk failure like before, and on either case I never dropped the iPod, well, first time I dropped it once, but from a low height.

Note that this is a new iPod, refurb/new, not the same one. I'm still under warranty, and Apple's collecting it soon. Do you think they'll replace it with another refurb?

If they do my dad says he'll buy it off of me and I'll buy an iPod Video with the money. I simply can't decide what colour. I'm easily annoyed by scratches, but the black iPod does look cool.

Thanks

I bought the white 5G iPod because to me the scratches on a black one would show up much easier.

Yeah, I am considering the white iPod for that reason.

Do you have the 30GB? Or the 60GB? I am thinking about the 60GB now, I just need to persuade my dad that paying that extra £70 (from my own money) will be worth it.

Wow, incredibly similar. The problem is, mine works from time to time.

Ever since this problem started on Friday, I've been unable to mount the iPod to restore it, and there is a mechanical noise, as the hard disk spins, it sounds like it has hit an obstacle, then it spins down. Does this constantly, while the apple on the screen remains with no backlight. Then it switches off. From time to time, say, every 30th time I try and access the iPod, it works. But then it either goes into the same loop when I plug it into the mac, or it just does it by itself in about 30 minutes.

I just really hope that a) Apple doesn't think I've done this purposely (I haven't actually done anything) and b) the iPod does not start working when they get it, resulting in a "No need for repair" send-back, possible time-wasting fees, and a half-broken iPod.

But I am going for white, I've made up my mind. Black would annoy me so much. But I'm not sure about 30 or 60.

It would be about £70 more for the 60, one more hour of video battery life, 6 more for normal life. And it's still thinner than the 20GB iPod. I say go for it, personally.

White, definitely. It's "iPod", black just hasn't got the same iconic momentum. 60 GB version, of course. Not only because of the harddisk size, but mainly because of the increased battery life, which is important for video... I'm thinking about it, but I've promised myself that my iPod way is 2G, 4G, 6G, so I'll have to wait a little bit longer. And I just _guess_ I'll like my decision once I get my 6G iPod. Right now, my 4G b/w works just fine as it always has.

I bought the 30G because it was a shorter wait when they first came out. The video on it is better than what I thought. The only drawback is QuickTime Pro's SLOW encoding for the iPod. HandBrake seems to be the fastest for encoding to to the iPod specifications.

Hmm.. i had a 10G 1st Gen iPod that finally died last month. it started with a clicking sound as it was winding down but was still working ok. Over the past year the battery was playing up like it had a mind if it's own i would charge it in the wall (plug) but it would last half as long, however when i plug it into my computer it charged and lasted longer. it's like it loved that computer more that raw energy from the wall.

Finally, i wanted to get some songs of an old wallstreet that didn't have firewire, so i got a firewire card tested it with an external drive and it mounted ok. But when i plugged in the old iPod it had a heart attack and finally died.
