My First Mac, My First Post

Hi all

I'm from the UK and i have just bought a 15.4" Powerbook G4 Titanium although i won't get it until Tuesday. This will be the first time i've ever used a Apple computer or software and i'm really excited. I'm buying it for the summer so i can sit in the garden and surf, play games etc. while catching some rays! I have always had a PC with windows and I currently have a high end PC with Windows XP.

I Could really do with some help.

The Powerbook i'm getting is Used although i'm assured its in excellent condition and comes with orginal box, manuals, OS X, modem cable, TV
monitor lead, add on mouse, power supply, documents and Receipt.

I've been told the Specs wich are:-

15.4" Powerbook G4 Titanium
Mac OS X
900mhz CPU
512mb Ram
40gb Hard Drive
DVD/CDRW Combo Drive
Not wireless but can use a Belkin PCMCIA card to make it wireless.

Questions:-

Does anyone know where i can find the exact spec of this model?

Will i be able to upgrade to the latest OS "Tiger"?

Can someone point out a wireless 54g card that's compatible?

Is my Powerbook Airport compatible?

Any help would really be appreciated as i'm a complete newbie!

Thanks Guys

Welcome to MacOSX.com, and to the Mac. You will find this community of people very helpful, and this site will probably become one of your daily stops.

You should have no problems upgrading to Tiger.

Airport card is highly recommended. This web site has some compatible drivers for other than Apple wireless card.

Yes.

Thanks again

There's a complete history of models here:
http://www.info.apple.com/support/applespec.html

You are probably getting an 867 MHz titanium model perhaps?
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=75431

Only the 1GHz version has a wi-fi card built in. The 867 model has a slot for a card. I think it takes an Airport card, not the later Airport Express.

Extra RAM might speed it up but 512 is "OK".

Thanks for your help everyone, it is the 867mhz version

Now i just need to sort out a 54g compatible Airport or PCMCIA wireless card, changing over the 2 x 256mb ram mdules for 2 x 512mb and upgrading the Mac OS 10.3.X "Panther" to Mac OS 10.4.X "Tiger"

Sorry rhisiart but i don't think i need a security lock, but thanks
