G4 Sunflower TO BUY OR NOT TO BUY

Ok what the story on the G$ sunflower, I want to get one! I think it is the best computer (style) ever made!! Im thinking of getting a 1ghz 17 inch superdrive, I mean what more do you want, Im just small time ebayer and internet guy who uses XP now and was an original IMac guy, now wnats to go back to the dark side!
I know there is faster g5 on the market, but I really can stare at all that white space! I think the sunflowers is perfect, speakers, 1 cord for power! Am I missing something!?

My question, was there any short commings that I should look for?

Thanks for any suggestions you might have!

Also besides ebay, any good site to pick on up!

hmmm...somehow I've managed to never hear it referred to as "Sunflower". It's always just been iMac G4, Desklamp, or Half-a-Basketball (that one's mine).

Apart from that, the Mac in question was a great machine to look at. It's a bit outdated (don't expect to do any gaming or anything.) but it'll run Tiger just fine if you max out the RAM (which by the way is pretty much the only upgrade you can do, save for the CD Drive).

In my oh-so-humble opinion, the iMac G4 was the best looking/most useful All-in-one Mac ever. The swivel display was ingenious. And it just looked so very very sciencey.

And definitely get the 17" model. Your eyes will thank you in the long run. I'd say the best deal you'll find will be on eBay. Just make sure to read ALL the fine print.

btw...it's just pronounced "Randy". The 3 is silent. For no good reason.

Steve Jobs himself said "its like a sunflower" in his speech when the iMac G4 was launched. And I agree, it is one of Apple's best product designs for its elegance. Don't write off the G5 (and new Intel CoreDuo) iMacs, though. They are very well designed and easy to live with, and *much* more powerful. The simpler design, slot loading drive and the easy to tilt/move stand makes up for the lack of up-down movement.

I agree with Ra3ndy, go for the 17" as it is a much better display. There was also a 20" model introduced late in the iMac G4's product life that was simply stunning (I know I wanted one at the time).

I hope you can get a good price on one. Like all Apple products, the iMac G4 tends to hold its value a lot, and people don't really like to sell them. If it looks like a new Intel iMac is a better value proposition, then I'd seriously consider it.

The Original iMac G5 is beautiful inside and out.

The latest revisions of the iMac (Rev. b and core duo) not so nice to look at on the inside.

I agree wholeheartedly. the inside of my iMac G5 is impeccable. Only one mainboard, all the connections neat and well placed. The inside of the new Intel iMacs looks like something from a Korean VCR with bits all over the place. *sigh*

Apple users are a little spoiled, though.
