Unhappy play video

i have downloaded video, but have been unable to open the video in quicktime player. i was told that because most of the files on the internet are for windows. i was also told that i would need to download a certain software, but was not told which software to download. pls help.

And if this isn't enough to play what you need, just search for the file type and "mac" on www.google.com. There's plently of workarounds for almost all video codecs on the Mac.

We need more info, like what kind of file it is and what happens when you open it in QuickTime Player.

Just try out VLC it will play about 99.9% of the videos out there no mater what codice they used. the url for VLC is http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Hope that help everyone out there. Oh by the way it is ez to stream your videos over you home LAN and even over the net. I use it to stream video that my friends and I need to see, because we are working on a movie. all being made on a mac.
