Question Favourite chat software

With the internet becoming more and more popular and everyone emailing and chatting. What's your favourite software (on mac, pc or linux) and why?

I don't mind AOL because I've been using it many years and know loads of people but prefer iChat or MSN for 1-1 chatting.

Not really tried the whole webcam thing yet. Not too keen on people seeing me when I'm relaxing at home with no make up on and my hair a mess!

Gaim on Windows and Linux, and Adium on OS X.

I've always found Gaim to be the most flexible client since it supports a lot of protocols and plugins. And since Adium uses libGaim, it's basically the same thing but in a much prettier package.
